Quick start guide
Kaizen Gems tracks the time you spend on each step of a cut: preforming, designing, cutting, prepolish and polishing, per stone, with grit and lap detail, billable value, and reports. The full app is free on one device and your data stays on that device. Syncing across devices is optional and paid.
Go to kaizengems.com in your browser. Nothing to install and no account needed. It works offline once loaded, and your data stays on your device.
On your phone: use your browser's Add to Home Screen option and it opens like an app, full screen.
Your data lives in your browser, so protect it before you log real work. On Settings choose Link auto-backup file and save it somewhere synced, such as OneDrive or Dropbox. Every change then auto-saves to that file.
Linking a file needs Chrome or Edge on a desktop. On other browsers use Export backup regularly instead.
On Stones add a stone, with an optional client, hourly rate and colour. You can record rough weight, cost, origin and treatment too, and the app works out your yield.
Stages and their grit and lap options live on Settings. Edit them to match your bench.
Live: on Timer pick the stone, stage and grit, choose crown or pavilion, then press Start. Pause and stop are on the same screen.
By hand: on Entries enter 24-hour times or a duration. Crossing midnight is handled for you, so 23:00 to 01:00 counts as two hours.
Reports breaks your time down by stage, grit, crown and pavilion, stone and day, with billable hours and value.
Click any stone name on Stones for its full log, yield figures and totals. Export to CSV from Entries for everything, or from a stone for just that stone.
Everything above is free, forever, on one device. If you want to design at the desk and log at the bench on your phone, create an account on Settings to sync live across devices with cloud backup.
It is $8.99 a month or $89 a year, after a 14-day free trial. Creating an account uploads a copy of your data. It never replaces what is already on your device.
Link a backup file before you log real work. Your data lives in this browser, so the backup file from step 2 is what keeps it safe long term. The pill at the top right of the app tells you where you stand: Auto-backup on Backed up Back up
